Travel

I’ve always enjoyed traveling. While I was still in college, my family and I would drive all over the state looking for penny machines for my hobby. Now that I have a job and make a reasonable amount of money, I started traveling outside of Michigan.
SO got a book, “1,000 Places To See Before You Die” by Patricia Schultz, probably after he mentioned that he would like to go on an African safari. I’ve been using the book as a checklist for places to visit. I know it’s silly; even if I visit 20 places a year, it’ll still take me 50 years to see everything in the book. But I figure that as long as I have the time, I should still give it a shot.
Trips taken before 2004 usually revolves around my elongated hobby and the journal entries talk about penny machine discoveries. I started writing and sending myself post cards after the Paris vacation in 2005, and some of these post cards are scanned in as well. It’s actually a lot of fun: you buy the post cards, write down exactly how you’re feeling, and mail them on the spot so that the cards will bear the post marks of the cities you visited. This also forces you to find a post office sometimes, which takes you away from the more touristy areas and you get to see the locals on a normal day (or you can just hand it to the hotel concierge, that works well too).
