I used to hate cooking. The process took too long and I couldn’t imagine anyone spending so much time in the kitchen. Plus I never received much encouragement in that area, not that I gave out much praises either (sorry again about the chocolate cake, Jennifer). It wasn’t until I started dating SO and he had triple servings of everything I made did I start to enjoy making dinner. I even worked at a gourmet restaurant as a chef for 3 months, manning the appetizer station. The experience taught me a lot, although it was awfully tiring to have two jobs at once…
The trick to cooking at home, as my dad taught me, is not to plan ahead. Decide what food you’re in the mood for, find a recipe, and then shop for only enough food to make one meal. We rarely throw out any food from the fridge since we never buy more than what we can eat for the day. The produce is always fresh, you get to know your local grocery store better, and you can track your day to day spending on food accurately.
