Turkish Towels

December 29th, 2007

Andy, SO, and I went to Chicago to get my towels today. I’ve been eying these Turkish towels at Restoration Hardware for the longest time. Thanks to Jennifer, I got two sets (blue and gray… but looks a lot like brown…)
I’m going cash only starting Jan. 1st. It feels a bit weird, hopefully it’ll work out.

Sweeney Todd

December 29th, 2007

Such a good movie.
I went to see it with Jennifer during the Christmas holiday. For some reason, it didn’t dawn on me that this is a horror film. I couldn’t watch most of the throat slicing scenes. But now I can’t get the songs out of my head. Finally broke down and bought the music on iTunes, will get the original musical later.

Power’s Back!

December 25th, 2007

The first time we called the power company (… the company which we work for…) they said 7 PM on Christmas Eve. Then they said by noon on Christmas Day… Well, we got power back on Christmas Eve afternoon. Should have known, damn that screwy AEP.
I can’t speak for the others, but I couldn’t wait to get plugged back into my computer.

Power Outage on Christmas

December 24th, 2007

We’ve had no power for the past 2 days.
Andy and Jennifer decided to join us for the holiday. On the very first day of arrival, there was a big storm and took down some power lines. It hasn’t been fixed yet and we’ll probably be going without power till Christmas day.
Glen, Katina, and Logan went home for the holidays, so Jennifer and I have been staying at their place. Andy and SO are toughing it out at home next to the portable heater.

Nutcracker

December 23rd, 2007

Jennifer and I went to see the Nutcracker today.
Both Jennifer and SO have seen it before (SO’s brother used to be in the Nutcracker ballet). This was my first time seeing it and I thought it was awesome. I specifically bought the CD to listen to before the show, however, I don’t think it mattered for ballets…
We had dinner at the 1913 Room, both great and extremely expensive.

Power of Organization

December 17th, 2007

I’m done!! Only two days after I put together my notebook page, I’m done with everything listed! Whoo hooo~~~ no more work for the year! (Not really… still have to keep busy somehow).

I’m so behind…

December 16th, 2007

I was standing in line at the groceries when I read the cover of a special edition TV Guide. Kate Walsh was on the cover, above the line “… starring two hit series…” (or something to that effect.)
Really?? Two?? When did that happen?
A search in IMDB showed that Walsh is on both Gray’s Anatomy and Private Practice, both as Dr. Addison Montgomery. Then I realized that Private Practice is that little blurb of a show they stuck in Gray’s Anatomy (where Addison went to CA and found out she cannot have a baby). If it’s not for the TV Guide, I wouldn’t have found out that Addison took the position at… what’s the name of that practice… oh anyway.
This is like the time when I heard on the radio that J. Lo’s making an apparency in Will and Grace, but didn’t get to see the actual episodes till it came out on DVD almost 2 years later.

Christmas Party

December 15th, 2007

Went to the SWE Christmas party at Wendy’s house today.
I don’t know Stevensville/Baroda very well, but when Bing described the house to me I thought: I know EXACTLY which house you’re talking about. I’ve drove by there numerous times and I’ve even thought about buying it when it was for sale about 4 or 5 years ago. Wendy did a great job decorating it, the place looked great.
This was actually a last minute decision. I wasn’t sure if we were going to Columbus this weekend or not.
I made chicken and sausage stew for the pot luck. Turned out all right.

What a Week…

December 15th, 2007

I’ve been told twice that I’m going to be the I&C lead engineer for the upcoming MSR replacement project. For those of you who don’t work at a power generating plant, this is a huge deal. For those who work at a power generating plant and don’t think this is a big deal, you got a finger and you know where to stick it.
Anyway, the frustrating thing is, neither my supervisor or my manager thought it appropriate to be the first one to tell me this big news… oh well, they’ll come around to it too.

We did it!! My first attempt at organizing events.
The Society of Women Engineers invited 100 middle school girls from St. Joseph and Benton Harbor for a day of engineering activities. Renata and I organized it (talking to schools, planning activities, ordering kits, setting up the location… ) and we had many volunteers helping on the day.
It turned out great! I think everyone had a great time.

Now… back to the nuclear plant for some midnight valve tests.
