O Yang, You’re So Lucky!!
October 24th, 2007
I’ve been to NYC at least once per year since Jennifer moved there, and not once had I spotted a celebrity.
O Yang took a couple of weeks off to stay with Jennifer, and just HAPPENED to stumble upon the Sex and the City Movie set!!! And took pictures with Steve!
Gosh O Yang! YOU ARE SO LUCKY! Next time I’m traveling with you!

Days Off 5
October 22nd, 2007
Lately, when I listen to BCC, they’d talk about these missions called “saving blogs,” and I think to myself: why do blogs need saving? Well, apparently, some blogs are just not getting enough attention. So the blogger would call in and plead to the DJ to announce the web address in the air and ask all the faithful listeners to visit. It seems like a real nice thing to do.
Then I kinda think: wow… my blog must be in real distress then!
I guess so… since my dear sister hasn’t bother to check in for weeks
yeah JENNIFER! I’m talking about you dude! (j/k

Firefly
October 19th, 2007
I’m watching Firefly over again, and I just can’t believe they canceled the show. I mean, it’s such a great show, who has the heart of doing something like that…
Days Off 4
October 14th, 2007
Wow… time flies… It’s been a month since we’re on outage schedule already…
SO came back with a toy today. For Moe, not for me (I got offerings of Mango candles and soap from him though
). It’s called a Kong… and it’s designed to frustrate pets. It’s a funny shaped chew toy and you put two pieces of treats in it. One inside and one half way in, so that your dog can get the first half easily, second half with more trouble, and the last one after fighting with the Kong for (hopefully) hours. This is suppose to distract Moe enough so that he leaves the hot spots on his legs alone. I guess it’s working well…
Home Alone
October 12th, 2007
SO went back home for a long weekend. His dad’s got tickets to a football game and he’s going to see a stand-up with my favorite author. I told him that he shouldn’t go to the show on principal. I’d never go to a UM vs OSU game while he stays at home working overtime, that’s just cruel.
But everything is going pretty well actually. I worked 11 hours today and got some half way decent praising, which is excellent on an outage day. I may even get worked up enough to make dinner. Which reminds me that the groceries are still sitting in my trunk… damn…
Things that Make You Think
October 11th, 2007
Kirk asked me to go to a recruiting dinner today. I’m kinda flattered that he asked, considering that I’m not really a new hire anymore and can probably relate less to these kids who are still in college. I guess they’re short on people since it’s the outage.
After the ice breaker activities that HR dreamed up (”What is the person you’d like to have dinner with, past or present?” with answers like Martin Luther King, Abe Lincoln, and Mother Teresa) we settled down and chatted over food.
These kids are young… and they’re selling their souls… When you’re just getting out of school, the first thing you look for is money. I mean, sure, there are plenty of jobs that you know you don’t want to do. But as long as it’s a good title with reasonable demands at a decent location, the next thing would be salaries, compensations, and benefits.
It’s really not as simple as that… you really are selling your life to the company. Evenings and weekends are theirs for the taking. Your most original thoughts go into brain storming meetings. You are forced to do a few degrading things (Safety Monitoring, FME watch, to name a few) just to be a “team player”. But these aren’t things that we’re telling college kids, they’ll find out soon enough. So the best advice I can give them is: don’t sell yourself short.
Jason’s Watermelons

We harvested the watermelons about a week ago. Here are some pictures.

Days Off 3
October 8th, 2007
Third week into the outage and the projection is 4 more weeks to go. Jay has finally increased my hours and I have been identified as the main DCS I&C in-house person on day shift (yes, my excellence comes with many clarifications.) Good for me.
I’ve been thinking… I still keep in touch with some of the people I went to college with. All of them have good engineering jobs now and all of the jobs offers some sort of perks:
* CW, who works for Google, told me that the company hires a gourmet chef to provide employees free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Google also provide transportation to the office for those who lives in SF.
* DP, who works for IBM, is making a killing for an intern.
* CW, who works for Amazon, is a supervisor, according to DP.
* JD, who works for Intel, actually gets compensated for overtime.
Sounds like it’s time to change jobs.
