Good Clean Fun

February 19th, 2008

On my favorite radio station today, they were talking about this new restaurant trend in Japan.
It’s called the “Boys School” restaurants and it’s a comeback as the opposite of the previously trendy “Maids in Uniform” restaurants. The wait staff are attired in the school uniform, with button up shirts and thin ties. The decors are suppose to be school like, lined with bookshelves with pianos and guitars. They even changed their greetings to match with the atmosphere.
With my pen posed, I was ready to jot down the address and book my next vacation. At that moment, Glen called, asking about modification design inputs. By the time I hung up the phone, they have moved on to the next topic and started talking about Obama and his chances of winning the nomination.
Stories like these make listening to the radio worthwhile. I remember a similar story sometime last year when they discussed the Hong Kong “Kept List.”
The “Kept List” is a public list, compiled each year from the prices that rich men are willing to pay for the company of singers and movie stars. These aren’t divas, but maybe girls who had a couple of singles out that year. The story was about how the “Kept List” was extended to include millionaire women and boy bands. It’s touching to see the world moving towards gender equality.
